Nancy Rosenthal
- Founder and Director
After 15 years making
films about the natural world for
National Geographic Television, Nancy
expanded her work to include films
about contemporary issues and the
performing arts. Her films and collaborations
have won numerous awards and an independent
feature documentary was shortlisted
for an Academy Award. As a member
of New York Women in Film and Television
she has produced numerous panels about
documentary filmmaking. Nancy is an
active member of the Explorers Club
and the Manhattan Sailing Club.
|
|
|
Recently she traveled to Papua
New Guinea for a documentary film project
which was supported by an Explorers Club
grant. She has served as advisor for the
Explorers Club Documentary Film Festival, the Nantucket Film Festival and the Hamptons
Film Festival and juror for the International
Emmy Awards.
The increasing interest and
need for information and guidance about
the declining health of the planet, and
the emergence of so many outstanding important
films not viewed by the public inspired
her to create a festival in Manhattan. Filmmakers
could have a venue to show films with vital
messages to an audience with the power to
create positive change.
"When you combine compelling
films, passionate filmmakers, and an appreciative
audience you find yourself in an incredibly
energizing and positive atmosphere. You
leave the festival inspired, with a greater
appreciation for the planet, and wanting
to protect it. The time is right for this
kind of festival and what better place to
celebrate the world of the wild but
in one of the most urban cities in the world,
New York."
